About Surgical Oncology:

Oncology is the study and treatment of tumors (cancer).  A surgical oncologist is a surgeon who specializes in the surgical treatment of patients with cancer. Surgical oncologists have completed advanced training in the treatment of cancer patients in addition to full training in general surgery.

The most widely accepted approach to the treatment of cancer is a multimodality approach. This means the careful co-ordination of medical, surgical, and radiation therapies in the care of the patient diagnosed with cancer. This combined approach helps to ensure the best possible outcome.  Not all patients will require the care of all three types of cancer specialists.

Dr. Kaufman operates at Lafayette General Medical Center, Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, and Park Place Surgery Center.
